But the sales flyer (for next week) from the grocery store looks GREAT!
We only shop once/month, so when the flyer is this good for the week we're going to shop, I get all excited.
Great prices on cod, American cheese, whole wheat bread, lots of different produce, olive oil, bacon, ground turkey, boneless/skinless chicken thighs...
(Of course, now what matters is whether or not these items are actually in stock.)
Time to get out the cookbook and see what I can make!!!!

Thank you, this is exciting!

(22,044 posts)If you're food shopping once a month, How much frozen meat do you keep?
I'm curious because we're starting to the about getting a deep freezer because the one in our refrigerator isn't big enough for our culinary desires.
Unlike you, we go to the store every few days. Particularly since the pandemic began, food shopping is like going to the toy store for us! We generally don't buy too much but we often find that we've packed the 'fridge too full.
I tend to stock it w/ proteins for 20 dinners. That's typically 40 portions, though some things get made with the thought that there will be leftovers (like spaghetti (meat) sauce, stir-fry, stews, meatloaf, etc).
But then there's breakfast sausage, sliced cheese, bacon, and sliced cold cuts. And of course, frozen pizza and frozen veggies. (We do buy fresh veg, but we use it up at the beginning of the month and then switch to frozen.)
And yeah, when we get stuff home from the store, it gets portioned, labeled and dated before going into the freezer.
I very rarely buy anything w/o having some idea of what I will do with it. That's the way it has to be because if you're only going to do one shop, you need to know what else has to be purchased to complete the recipes.
We used to have a small standing freezer, which was MUCH easier than the big chest-style one, but it bit the dust a few years ago, and we did without a (stand-alone) freezer for a couple of years until Al's son gave us this chest freezer.
