The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm so excited that I got to meet CaliforniaPeggy today and it was a lovely random occurrence!
I'm still smiling that I saw CaliforniaPeggy in person coming out of a WholeFoods in El Segundo today, and I introduced myself and we had such a nice conversation. We even took a couple pictures.
How it started for me was that I walked by a car in the parking lot with a DemocraticUnderground.com bumper sticker and I started wondering if I would be able to run into that person somehow and say hi. I kept walking towards the store and I saw a woman coming out that looked like it might be her from the pictures she's posted, so I asked if she was CaliforniaPeggy and she said Yes! It was completely random and so much fun! We talked briefly about politics, of course, our preferred candidates -- that type of thing. I told her why my husband and I were so pro Biden and she showed me a picture of her with Pete Buttigieg during his primary campaign.
It was such a lovely, unexpected, total random occurrence but it's been really nice to meet her in person. She is one of the kindest people here and in person, as well.
Thanks for the DU mail, too, CP!

I was amazed at how random a chance this was. And we hit it off like long-lost friends!
You are a lovely, articulate, Democratic lady and they make such good friends!

(17,984 posts)do go especially because the Container Store in that mall is the best in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, weve found. I think its been since last April since Ive been there!
Im so glad you still had the bumper sticker on your car! I really enjoyed meeting you, and I think you make a great friend, too.
Cheers! But Im bummed when I found out the juice bar was closed for the day. I missed out on my Doctors Orders drink.
Edit: and thanks for all the nice comments, everyone!

Very nice!
Many years ago, I discovered a DUer was from my area and we chatted a bit- Low and behold we had both lived in the SAME apartment on a small nearby farm & she knew several of my cousins quite well. She had also been to a barn sale at my mothers home.

(17,557 posts)Not only to see a bumper sticker - but to actually stand and talk - WOW!!!!!
I'm afraid that in my area if I saw another vehicle with a DU bumper sticker I'd also see someone giving it the 'evil eye' and thinking about how to 'leave a mark' (spit - keys - something inspired by Jan.6 'tourists').
But, YEA - fellow DU members - out there in the world - and proud!!!!!!!!!!!

(4,658 posts)That sounds like a wonderful experience!
I can say for myself, that just knowing that there are Others out there who I feel I can agree with, helps my mental stability in ways I cannot describe.
Thank god for us! I'm not alone, I'm not crazy. This is not normal. We can't let it happen.
My education and observations leave me rattled.
I am not an Island. There are many of us. More than them. I feel like a frog sometimes. In boiling water.

(17,984 posts)different people as her pictures of her many personal meetings show, and that is a real skill. I always feel I have something to learn from someone with great social skills, and she is amazing.
I have always appreciated her confidence in posting her pictures of herself and her experiences, which is also an admirable trait.
She has a lot of great qualities.
And thanks to all for the recs and nice comments! It is always nice to meet someone in person.
