I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls
And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies
My mind's distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you're asleep
And kiss you when you start your day
And a song I was writing is left undone
I don't know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can't believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme
And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I

The beauty of the words matched perfectly with the beauty of the music. I rarely see anyone mention it. The moment I saw the post title little feelings of tears welled up in my eyes.
Every single thing about that song works. A perfect song for me anyway.

(34,105 posts)out of thousands just as wonderful that just blows me away but I cannot find it. Arghhhh. Pure, simple and short and it just blows everything in your life away with the beauty and perfection of it. I am looking, this stuff gets me in a space where I MUST find it and hear it again. With them there are so many choices. If I find it I will post it, not that your thread is not already the best thing I will see today. Today on my list of things to listen to as I clean the barn is S and G.
Just found it, For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her. I have never thought the ending was good but this song...mmmmm.

One of my favorite groups of all time. I think I hated it more when they broke up than the Beatles.

(34,105 posts)but oh the music that Paul has done since then....just astonishing. For a long while I missed the combination of their two voices but I got used to just Paul and following where he went with his learning and the new music has been like being a world traveler.
Thanks for this thread. I woke up a little down and now I have my day planned with music that will never do anything but uplift.

(34,105 posts)how very lucky we are that the two of them came together and made this music. I still adore Paul, his albums just take me away but the two of them together were pure perfection. If you have not read Miracle and Wonder by Malcolm Gladwell you should. I think you would enjoy it a lot, it is a series of long talks and interviews with Paul. His mother actually liked Artie's voice more that his and he does not seem to have gotten over that comment, lol. It is so interesting. It is on Audible, listening to it in Paul's voice was just wonderful.

(58,645 posts)Paul had a more 'natural' sound to him. His voice was better than Dylan's (many of his songs sounded better when covered by others , but Art sounded near angelic.

(34,105 posts)I do not remember that but it was/is angelic. It was a match made in heaven for a little while but will last for eternity.
