A piano has been placed outside the entrance to the railway station in Lviv, Ukraine.

Volunteers and passersby have been sitting down at the instrument, playing for fellow travellers and helping to spread hope with their music.

someone hauled a piano outside on a street corner and started playing amid the devastation. I read of this in a diary of the era when researching the period for a novel I once wrote.

...I had Ukrainian neighbors who were refugees from Stalin, old people who treated me magnificently, but what the world is seeing is that Ukrainian culture is a high and magnificent culture imbued- how rare is this - with toughness tempered with grace, humor, and a profound sense of beauty even in tragedy.

They have a right to claim glory.
