Are we getting a poodle or a chihuahua. We need some brainey stuff in this household.

might be able to find a cross bred at the pound or through a rescue group. I might suggest an adult cat as a quieter, generally calmer companion. good luck with whatever you get and don't forget to post pics!

of course individual differences and environment negate any breed tendencies.

I was never a fan of small dogs until we ended up with one. and now two. I see the appeal of having a whole herd of them, they are so amusing.

along with the two little mutts we have a HUGE greasy stinky hound mix that needs a bath so bad. he has to be done outdoors and it is too freaking cold still. poor thing, nobody wants him to be affectionate because he just SMELLS!

17. Poodle. I prefer standards, though.

They tend to be smart, but just spend some time to find one with a good disposition that can handle other dogs. The small ones have the same bonding/loyalty traits the standard poodles have.
My neighbor growing up had a poodle-beagle mix that was a great, happy dog.
BTW, do you know most dog bites are from Chihuahuas?
