Literally just got the news. He just got shot in the line of duty. Hit me a little hard. Believe it or not I thought I would go before he would.
He was in the army then he joined the police force. I understood their both are dangerous but....
Add: the assailant died of his gunshot wounds. Find myself upset that he can't go to court and be sentenced to jail time.

(80,416 posts)You must still be in shock if you just heard the news.
I have four cousins who are police officers in a large city. I cannot image getting the call you just received.

(14,198 posts)Apparently the whole family is reaching out to each other to report the news.
He's the first in my generation of the family to die.

(80,416 posts)Their father and uncles were policemen too.
So it would be a shock to hear of their death on the job.
Yes the first one to die in the cousin line up is hard. Yes I am sure the family is reaching out, getting the word out.
I am glad the family is connecting now. That will help.

(9,353 posts)Police work is not easy. It is dangerous and lately, mostly thankless. He has given his life in the line of duty to protect us.

(14,198 posts)So there's not much we know yet about the circumstances. It's also an open investigation.
Thinks that is part of the stress of this.
