(93,730 posts)...I'd think they'd be even more bemused to find he got much of his pre-voyage knowledge of ships from fiction novels.

(18,477 posts)... on SS Moshulu , a similar ship engaged in the "Last Grain Race" of 1938, which he wrote about in the book of that name. Moshulu won, too. Now she's a restaurant in Philly: I had dinner in her one time.
