Question about online real estate information sites that are putting out false information.

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by JudyM (a host of the The DU Lounge forum).

I did a name search to see what someone would come up with under my name. i came up with info on ownerly that was just false. They listed an old friend that I haven't spoken to in over 15 years as someone who once owned our property. I quickly checked the County records to confirm that nothing funny was happening.

But, I also looked at my neighbors and noticed names that are not on their deeds. The logical answer is that this site is mistakenly including friends or family members as one of the members of our properties. I know it's not official, but how do we go around turning in something with such a terrible service?

are very inaccurate, not just real estate ones.

I have looked up people that I currently know, and some that I have not been in touch with for a while and found the most ridiculous things about them. Some who have been deceased for over 5 years are listed as living, with the age they would be if still alive. A devoutly Jewish friend was listed as Catholic. A friend who lived with my former husband and me for a few months was listed as his spouse during that time period, with my name as "possible" daughter.

I have a very, very common surname and a first name that was popular when I was born. There are several of "me" - people with the same first and last name. Many of those sites list names of my "relatives" who are people I have never heard of. Past addresses are assigned to me where I have never visited, let alone lived.

Common sense dictates that we should move to put an end to these sites that are putting out inaccurate information.

It would not provide me any info whatsoever without allowing them to send me emails to send a report. No thanks. So I am surprised it would have just come up on a random search of your name. I have an extremely unusual name and own property but ownerly does not come up on any random searches of my name.

The one site that does always come up with lots of erroneous info is My Life. They and these other snoopy sites always require signing up providing email to correct their garbage and are just trying to get customers to pay for full access.

But, it wasn't just me. It included blocks of information for everyone that lived on my street.

Once a month I go in and delete all the emails without reading them. Just don't use any name that is similar to yours.
