Vacation length

I'm here in a beautiful condo overlooking pure white sand beaches. But I've been here 7 days, one more day to go. I think from now on I'll only take 5 or 6 day long vacations. I'm actually wanting to go home.

How about you, is there a time length that's just too much to be away from home?

That’s why some of them are going back, in spite of the danger. That’s what I had been thinking. Even if you have a great vacation/trip, at some point most people want to go back home.

Unfortunately many have no home to return to.

Before retirement, it was rare that I had more than 2 weeks vacation, since most places required 5 years of service to get 3 weeks. So I took my vaca a few days at a time. I would schedule a day or two on a three-day weekend & take 4-5 long weekends a year. I don't think I could work six months of 40 hours every week. The standard work week in America sucks.

I've been re-watching Michael Moore's "Where to Invade Next" and in some European countries it's illegal for your employer to text or email you when you're on vacation. That would never pass in America.

like short vacations and places where I'm close to home. Nowadays, a week away can easily cost $1000 to $2000, and more in really popular places.

Where I live, in an hour we can be in the mountains, far from civilization (one can tell by the trump and confederate flags). Like those trips, other than the white wing MFers.

haven't really had a vacation in about eight years, so I'm ready to get the hell out of here!

Due to the COVID shut down over the past 2 yrs, work has let us roll our vacation over and accumulate more than our normal yearly total, but the excess has to be used by Jan 1. That means that both hubby and I have about 23 vacation days to take. Don't know where or how we'll schedule almost 5 wks off with everybody else needing to do the same. (Well, I do, but I don't think hubby would think it was vacation. We could just stay at home and work on renovating the kitchen and rebuilding our deck!)

I'm really am happy my kids finally found jobs, but due to them being hourly and not really earning vacation, I'm struggling with scheduling vacation that includes them. Son has opted for 2 unpaid weeks already to spend with his girlfriend's family - one at Disney and one on a cruise. I *might* be able to squeeze in a trip down to Hatteras if he can work his schedule around it. Daughter is trying to go from part time to full-time benefited, so I'm not sure what she'll be able to do.

I've always said I need at least a week to forget about work and start to relax, while the last few days are gearing up to go back to work or worrying about what's happened while you were away.
