In our household while I was growing up, my mother always used the diagonal slice. So it's a tradition that I carry on to this day.

even legal???
Maybe it depends on which state you live in?
I like being slightly off center. that was the only image I found with a quick search. have to say...that is not a very appetizing looking sandwich.

(7,911 posts)Some sandwiches just don't look right cut the wrong way. I can't imagine cutting a grilled cheese on the square. That just violates all the laws of nature. A fried egg sandwich, on the other hand, absolutely must be cut on the square. There's no other way that makes any kind of rational sense.

(22,502 posts)to cut a sandwich in EITHER manner in the Planck Time between completing the assembly of the sandwich and the initiation of the first bite.
Therefore (again, according to the physical laws of our universe) your question is meaningless.

(22,951 posts)Typically, in that event, I am using bread that isn't square.
So, for the most part, the answer is, either "semi-circle" or "half-rectangle."

(16,952 posts)Sandwiches divide on the square. Talk about picky. My youngest was always so famished he'd eat them cut anyway, anyhow and both halves were usually gobbled down before I turned around again. I miss the toddler days, I really do. It goes by so damn fast.

(23,175 posts)I cut the sandwich in rectangles, and then cut one of the rectangles in half to make squares, and then cut the other one in half, and then cut the halves into triangles. So she got both. I had to do that for quite awhile, but why not

(22,648 posts)I like building large, scrumptious sandwiches.
Then, I'll get my rubber mallet and smash the crap out of it until it is as thin as a piece of paper. Then, I take my old Stanley sheetrock knife and cut it into strips that are narrow enough to fit in this little manual pot grinder that I use to grind up my weed. It usually takes about three passes through the grinder with each of the narrow strips, because I grind the strips up so fine, they turn into a very fine "sandwich dust".
It takes a long time, because you have to grind each narrow strip 3 times to get it that fine, and you usually get about 50 strips out of a decent sized sandwich. When the dust for each strip gets fine enough, I empty the dust into a measuring cup.
When all the strips are ground into a fine dust and emptied into the measuring cup, I start slowly mixing water into the sandwich dust while stirring it with a wooden paint stirrer until it gets to a paste like consistency. The result is a delicious "sandwich paste".
Then I take a piece of bread and using a butter knife, I smear the sandwich paste onto a piece of bread, and then lay another piece of bread on top of that, thus making a "sandwich sandwich".
Finally, I cut it diagonally.
What was the question again?
