(29,785 posts)Is NYT subscription necessary?
Would be fun to check it out.
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)... that you used to solve the latest Wordle, it should come up for you. It's a critiquing tool that's provided by the NYT too, like the Wordle games, and it doesn't cost anything or require a subscription.
It can seem a little condescending sometimes.
But I've picked up some useful suggestions a few times from it, to improve my performance in later games. For example, I didn't previously know that the possible solutions are from a much-smaller list of 5-letter words than what Wordle will accept as valid words.
Their list of possible solutions:
https://static.nytimes.com/newsgraphics/2022/01/25/wordle-solver/assets/solutions.txt
Yet I STILL forget to check that list sometimes when hoping to actually solve it, picking a word that isn't on it!

(29,785 posts)Didnt work for me. Maybe need a NYT subscription?
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)I don't have a NYT subscription, and it comes up for me.
I have the NYT app on my smartphone, though, and it's the same phone that I use when solving Wordle games on a browser (not on the app).
Wordle doesn't even show up for me on the NYT app, unless I keep overlooking it.

(27,630 posts)I look at this as a brain exercise. If I solve the puzzle in 1 or 2 tries, I really haven't exercised my brain that much. When solving becomes difficult, then I really have to put my brain to work. I gain nothing by solving quickly. Yes it's fun to solve quickly; "look how smart I am", but then you're done. I enjoy a challenge. Yes on the rare occasion I solve in 1 (only once) or 2 (twice) there is a momentary exhilaration, but it was a fleeting 5 minutes.
This is just my approach to puzzles; the longer it takes the better for me. And when I finally do solve, it's a good feeling.

(16,950 posts)You're right. How in the world did you solve it in one try? ESP? I'd tell everyone I know!

(27,630 posts)So while it was kind of exciting to get it on 1st try, it was also a downer....no puzzle to play, it's like it got cancelled.

(27,630 posts)Put in my regular starting word and all the letters were correct except one. None of the letters were in their correct positions but it was easy to figure out the answer. So done in 2. No challenge.
