I have been in the middle of the Monarch migration and experienced the orange moving sky. It was not planned, I didn't know this was occurring, it was a relatively new park in Big Sur & I had never been there before. Walking down the trail to the beach, we noticed a eucaluptus grove to the right that looked strange so we walked there into the middle of hundreds of thousands (or so it looked like) of monarchs fluttering in the air, landing on the branches which were closely stacked with resting butterflies, then flying off again after a rest. We were the only people there. It was glorious! We held out our arms and the butterflies would land on us - so freaking cool. Just sad neither of us brought a camera and it was in the late 80's so no cell phones - otherwise it was a magical special day.
