A flood-proof home that looks to the river Thames for inspiration

Elizabeth Rose, a former dancer, gives us a tour of her flood-resilient stilt house that sits above the banks of the River Thames
“The idea was that the house would appear to float in the garden and be raised by steel posts, allowing floodwater to flow underneath it. The choice of materials was really to do with what would suit the river.”

March House is a prefabricated, timber frame, stilt house, hovering above the flood plain with a beautifully planted garden, on the banks of the River Thames.

The design deploys flood resilience strategies to make a sustainable home which will withstand the site’s predicted increased flood risk for the next 100 years.
