When baby giraffe Msituni was born in February, veterinarians at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park discovered that the little giraffe suffered from a range of ailments, including hyper-extended joints. The Hanger Clinic, a group specializing in building orthotics for humans, performed two procedures to fabricate a mold of Msitunis leg and create a custom stainless steel brace. After wearing the brace for ten days, Msituni can now roam free.

What a joy it must have been for those who did those procedures.
You always find such interesting things, Rhiannon!

I just love them, they are so adorable - and awkward as babies - and I was so impressed with how they skillfully managed to save this little one! The surgeon had only worked on humans before, but he really stepped up!

would love an ortho doc to explain how it could be fixed that quickly.......I never hear about humans wearing a brace for just ten days for anything!
