Took me weeks to get my husband to admit it wasn't normal for a new refrigerator to be warm in the main area but the freezer a glacier covered in ice, and condensation soaking everything in the vegetable area. Also making odd gurgling noises like a frog under water.
Today a repair guy from the manufacturer came and he blamed it on not closing the refrigerator doors (like we're so stupid we don't notice the refrigerator doors are open) and "vapors." I'd made the mistake of leaving a small bowl of uncovered leftover soup in there and he said the condensation was caused by leaving uncovered things, as if I leave large pots of hot liquids in the refrigerator all the time and wonder why it's not cold, as well as leaving the doors wide open and wonder why it's not cold. I lost my temper. I knew this was going to happen.
At first the husband was embarrassed at me losing my temper, but I explained and he understood about the gender gap. I have a clear memory of, as a teenager, taking my mother's car into the mechanic's because of the heater. In a crowded waiting room, I went up to the man at the counter and told him I was there because the heater was broken. He said, is it broken or it doesn't work? Snickers from the waiting room. Still don't understand what the hell is the difference. It's always like that.
Guess I'll need to buy a new refrigerator (not looking for advice and I know, First World Problems), but I just wanted to rant.

(11,288 posts)It had an alarm that kept going off and the code said it needed repair, there was water on the floor and I was pissed. Told my other son who had a similar fridge and he came over and showed her I was closing the 2 doors in the wrong order. I hated that fridge and apparently they did too, they replaced it shortly thereafter.

(17,304 posts)I've heard from a couple of appliance technicians to stay away from LG in particular. One of them actually said he only recommends Bosch and Miele -- very high-end, costly German products. He reasoning is that most other companies use the same cheap components inside no matter how nice or expensive the appliance looks on the outside.
It truly is a "disposable" society we live in. Appliance and electronics are manufactured to last about three or four years instead of the decade or more that we used to get out of them.
I miss my old ugly rusty refrigerator because it was really COLD and no condensation at all.

(5,812 posts)...for the LG fridge. Best fridge Ive ever had. The only one that has not had a leak on the ice maker right after the warranty ended.

(50,949 posts)it has smelled bad. If I keep it topped up with jet-dry, the smell is less. I clean all the filters and areas that the manual says to clean every month - only I clean them weekly. I've had the connections checked to see if that is the problem and it isn't.
I know other people who have had the same problem with Bosch.
My Kenmore never did that.

(6,640 posts)washing machine!!! I never wash the inside of my dishwasher!!!! I think most of the problem comes from using a regular detergent whose base is essentially wax based. I use a natural detergent in both. (See BioKleen) and I have never had an interior that hasn't been shiny and new.
Ps. My daughter in law had trouble with her dishwasher and I think the problem is that the builders put in a drain line that went horizontal instead of verticle. And it is on the level of the washer's middle or top. Not down below. Water does not go uphill.

And I tested in case it was in my pipes. Water's good.
It's very weird.

(17,339 posts)Try contacting them on FB messenger. That's what I did when the LED on my fridge went out. Really quick response, and they helped me solve the problem.

I've just accepted that I need to buy a $12 bottle of jet dry every month and keep the door closed as much as I can.

(50,557 posts)I definitely agree with your friend's assessment.
Miele makes ALL its own parts. They make the screws that hold them together. AND...it's a small, family owned business.
However...don't buy a coffee maker from Miele. I'm absolutely positive that these are wonderful, innovative, state of the art coffee makers that would last a hundred years. Given that, the least expensive machine they make is $1800.

(17,304 posts)But we purchased a Miele vacuum. It's 8 years old now and it has served us fairly well, but we just had to take it in for the third time for the same issue: pet hair gets trapped inside the head, which eventually causes it to shut down and, according to the technician, it can pose a fire hazard.
So the next vacuum we buy will be pet-hair friendly since we have two heavy shedding dogs. We try to Swiffer to get the worst of the hair before vacuuming, but there's still lots of it hidden in nooks and crannies.

(25,496 posts)It was free, husband had coupons or something. Very low quality. He ordered it because the description said it made five cups of coffee. When it arrived we realized that meant five tea cups, not mugs. It's tiny. Turn it on, the grinder is incredibly loud, like a jet taking off. Then the brewing is like a person with breathing problems loudly and fitfully snoring. Finally there are putt-putt-putt noises like farting, and heavy sighing. It's a very eccentric coffee maker.

(2,815 posts)I'm always wiping up the water off the top shelf of the refrigerator. It doesn't drain correctly I even turned it off with the doors open for a few days in hope that the drain would unfreeze. The bottom panel of the freezer fills up underneath with a layer of ice and now I'm thinking about leaving that off to see what happens. I tried to snake out the drain from the freezer but too hard to get to. I saw where they say use hot water to slowly melt the ice out of the drain. Poor design. I'm going to try it again when I have more time.

(34,136 posts)Back close to the condenser. Then the condensation can't drain out. We have that problem with our all refrigerator side of our fridge-freezer pair.
The repairman suggests taking everything out of it once a year and let it come to room temperature. The drain tube will thaw out and it will drain. But that leaves the nasty crud at the bottom that collects over the year. and really doesn't solve the problem. I'm tempted to put a brown towel under the drawers to disguise the liquid that collects.

One interesting feature -- to me anyway -- is the automatic door closer -- if the door is left ajar less than 5", it will close itself. I have left a door slightly open a few times over the years on my previous refrigerators, so am very happy about this feature -- added peace of mind.
The main fridge has 3 door shelves, all wide enough to fit a gallon milk jug the entire length of the shelves -- I like because I can store a lot of stuff there and easily see what is there as opposed to peering way down and in the back.
Very good temperature control.
I was looking for a Whirlpool since my last one lasted 18 years (never needed repairs, except 6 months before it died it was noisy and i knew its end days were approaching, didn't bother to try to repair it but let it eventually die), but couldn't find one that fit my space available for it and I forget what else tilted my decision to this particular Frigidaire model.
I had studied a recent Consumer Reports on refrigerators and was especially focused on reliability.

(9,265 posts)Bought a Kenmore side-by-side 4 years ago to replace our old Kenmore we had for 20 years that still worked fine but was too small and I wanted the ice & water in the door feature. Paid $850 on sale, no problems so far. At the same time my daughter bought a Samsung bottom freezer and she hates it, plus the ice-in-the-door feature stopped working. She paid $1300.

(17,622 posts)..OH he would say.. 'thats the auto defrost'. The HELL it is I would say...and as the main consumer of this fridge i would NEVER buy one that fills with water when it defrosts.
SO.....when the damn thing finally quit i told hubby I was buying the 3500$ Samsung Family Hub Black Stainless..
LOVE IT!!!!

(23,099 posts)They also take forever to come out - like months and months - and then order parts that take more months to come in and in the meantime, your refrig is a mess. The top icemaker is defective and leaks badly. We had to keep towels on the shelves and change them out several times a day when they got soaked. Ugh!

(25,496 posts)We moved about six months ago and had to get a lot of new things. The higher tech, the more trouble. A lot of beeping and noise, panels with dozens of things to push that are confusing.
The washing machine plays a musical tune to let you know to take the clothes out. The kitchen faucet has a sensor you wave your hand in front of to turn the water off and on, but when I reach over the sink for something the water turns on by itself and startles me. Sometimes I end up angrily waving my hands around trying to get the damn thing to turn off.
The bath decides how much water should be used and turns off by itself, announces it's ready over an intercom in the kitchen. The toilet has an auto-flush that finally my husband figured out how to stop (again, large panel of things to push, but at least it doesn't talk). It made me nervous because once you stand up you only have a few seconds before it flushes -- I was afraid of being a slow wiper, what would the toilet think. The stove turns off by itself when it decides it's been on too long. Very good for old people who forget they've put a pot on the stove, but kind of annoying when you're simmering something for a long time. It doesn't beep or play music or talk so I have no idea it's turned itself off, I get paranoid and have to keep checking.
I miss the old appliances with ON and OFF and that mind their own business.

(96 posts)When we got our current refrigerator, it had the same symptoms. There may be many other things that will cause this problem, but this is worth a try, it doesnt take but a minute or two.
Check that the seal is closing all the way around the door. On ours, the seal had be crushed during storage/shipping. This was exacerbated when we switched the door to swing the opposite way. The crushed seal on the new hinge side didnt come close enough to the metal door jamb for the magnet in the seal to attach the seal to the door.
I just stretched the seal away from the door to overcome the set that was in the seal. After a while of that, the seal started working and the symptoms went away.
Good luck.
I checked but can't see anything wrong with the seal. The fridge door opens from both sides, I'll try opening it from the other side I usually don't use, just in case.

(8 posts)We have had a Samsung double door, double drawer refrigerator for about 7 years. Ice dispenser leaks water inside and out. We have to defrost the icemaker about once a month with a hair dryer because it will quite working. Its been replaced twice but It doesn't matter. I understand there is a class action suit that's been in progress for years. I will never ever buy a Samsung appliance again. We have had good luck with GE in the past.
