(14,966 posts)In addition to Amazon not sending messages like that, 858 is a San Diego area code, despite its similarity to 1-800, 1-888, 1-877, etc.

(8,387 posts)The entire point of messages like this is to get you to call to "cancel" the order. In the process, they will require your credit card number in order to make sure the "refund" is processed.
Nobody sends messages saying "we shipped your expensive thing, call us to cancel it". It's a totally stupid message that no merchant of anything would actually send. Nobody does that.

(29,658 posts)I hate those SMS messages.
At the end of the day, if anything is charged to your credit/debit card that you didn't order, it is easy to dispute the charge.

(115,686 posts)It's a phishing scam, they want you to call that number to get more info from you, like a credit card. Don't call it; if you check your actual Amazon account you won't find that order.

(2,602 posts)If its not there, block the number and forget about it. If there is an order call the customer help on the Amazon page. And go to Amazon on another device.
Most likely a scam.

(31,516 posts)Both companies have a way to report these suspect messages as spoofing. After I report them, I delete them. Don't ever click on any of the links in this type of email. Report them and delete.

(2,336 posts)It's a pain but I do it any way. Lately I'm getting texts that purport to be from Chase Bank, but obviously they are not. They say "We Placed A Temporary Hold On Your Debit Card Due To Unusual Activity. Sign on link here To Verify Your Identity.
The entire thing was capitalized just like that, every word, capitalized. I wanted to alert Chase to the phishing attempt but didn't find an easy way to do so.
Ignore, block, just resist the urge to call or reply.
