25 cents and 45 cents. A dollar would be a real spurge. Especially for Chester, and probably Festus. Matt paid Chester out of his own pocket; I think it was 8 bucks a month.

I think, and had to buy some guy a steak dinner. The guy was eating it and talking about how good it was. Festus said "It aught to be good, it cost pert near a dollar".

Both had been married earlier in life, and both lived with long term, same sex, companions during the show.

For the first two seasons, the engine belonged to Los Angeles County Fire Department and part of their contract stated that a qualified firefighter had to be hired to drive it. The only member of the core cast who changed was the captain, so when the company that made the closed-cab engine gave them one as product placement he kept on driving it.
