The group is headed by Wade Wilson... more commonly known as Deadpool, another Marvel character.

If not... helluva coincidence.

On edit: Also I don't believe the character is gay - just not typically submissively feminine. The character is Ms. Marvel. Carol Danvers used to be Ms. Marvel but has been "promoted" to Captain Marvel earlier this century, and Kamala takes the Ms. title because she's a big fan of the Captain.
