(63,086 posts)very fast cat who shared my life decades ago.She was half Himalayan (back when Himalayans didn't look so Persian; the momcat looked like a sealpoint ragdoll) and half Maine Coon. Huge cat, nearly a yard long from nose to the tip of her tail, and her tail was comparatively short compared to her body. Huge eyes like blue marbles. And hind legs longer than her front legs. I was asked once if she was a Norwegian forest cat, and she did look a bit like that breed, too.
She often came down from the top of the fridge (which she sometimes seemed to think she needed to protect from company raiding it) in one leap, though it always took her two leaps, the first to the counter, to get up there.
And she loved to run at full speed and leap between pieces of furniture.
She was rarely outside and seemed nervous then, probably afraid it might mean another visit to the vet.
But when I was housesitting once for a friend who was off doing a week of job interviews across the country, my kitty discovered the joys of having the run of a very large Danish modern house with wood floors. (She'd been used to carpet in most rooms.) She'd take off down the hall between a few of the bedrooms and then twist around and sliiiiiide into the living and family rooms (one huge room with a see-through fireplace). She never miscalculated and hit the wall before the end of that slide, but there were a couple of times when it was close. Made me wish I'd had an indoor racetrack for her.
