He loves it and acts the same way as this guy, but I have failed at teaching him to drop the ball himself. I have to put the ball in the machine every time. he does love it though and will play fetch tirelessly under any circumstances.

He used to crouch in the "ready" position and wait for one of us to try to kick it past him. If the trajectory was anywhere within his reasonable ambit, it was almost impossible to "score" on him. He was extraordinarily good at it.

he'll turn around a couple times, then start running before the ball flies. and he is full steam coming back. i've got him to where he will put the ball in my hand, if only i could get him to put the ball in the machine. i could work without interruption. he's young yet. My bestest dog Chase passed on at over 15 years old in Dec2019. I got Chai right away, through my tears, and he's been my constant companion all through the pandemic. All my life i was a cat person until Chase came along, now I'm a dog person. They are truly our best friends.

He was 3 when I met him - he was and is my wife's dog, although he settles for me when she's not around, or trying to do something hideous like bathing him. Then, he comes and sits on my foot.

who would entertain herself with a ball where when the basement door was opened, she would toss the ball down the steps, then run down to find it, and would finally run back up to the top of the steps with ball in mouth and would throw it back down the steps again. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

When I would cat-sit one of my sister's cats (a tuxie) he would hurl a toy across the room and then go run to get it and bring it back. Over and over.

(as long as he thought that was entertaining, I was fine with it )
