HUGE shout-out (of appreciation) to the care-givers of the world

It's been just over two weeks since my guy was released from the hospital after hip replacement surgery.

I'm ready for a day off.

I began to think of people who provide care to their loved ones for weeks, months and even years without end in sight.

No matter how much you care for the "patient," it can be physically and emotionally draining to have to be there for them 24/7.

I think one of my biggest tasks is to keep my guy from doing things he shouldn't (specifically--doing anything that involves bending over). The physical therapist told him that there are things that he will feel like he can do, but that he really shouldn't. If the muscles around his hip don't heal, he could dislocate his new hip.

It's almost like having a toddler in the house again. Can't let him out of my sight. I'm too old for this.

And we'll do it all over again when he gets the other hip done.

The folks that have to do this all the time are truly something special.

I also have to remind myself that it's not easy for him either. It's got to be frustrating to have help with some of the most basic things you have to do in any given day.

Well, there's nowhere really to go, no transportation to get there, and no money to spend. So...

I'll either take the dogs for a walk or work in the garden for a bit today.

As a part of my job it was easier and much of that was because I chose to be a nurse and we always spent a lot of time with assisting people like that.

It is different if it is a family member and MUCH different if it is a spouse or a person living with you.

You have a heart of gold. I have seen many who struggle along when the family gets sick and tired of helping. I cannot entirely fault them for that but again, like you said, you must understand it from their point of view.

Enjoy your garden and walking the dogs. Fresh air is always a good thing. Hopefully your job will get easier quickly once he really gets healed up and can think of these things himself. ((hugs)) to you.
