personal fyi, PAXLOVID is working for me, I have Covid

I'm on day 4 of symptoms.
Got Paxlovid on day 3 in the PM.
Tested positive on day 2, home test.
Day one I thought was an asthma flare up.

When I woke up day 3, I was covered in a rash:
face, neck, chest groin, torso thighs. It also iched.
And I had covid toe on one toe.
Mild fever and the worst sore throat I've ever had.
Diarrhea, and productive cough.
I have a pulse ox reader at home,
and o2 has been normal, but I do feel short of breath.

Almost within 3 hours of taking the Paxlovid, the rash
began to recede. It's almost gone now. I still feel like
crap, but looks like this thing could have gone south.
So glad it was available and the doc prescribed it.

My little PSA: the medicine is free on emergency use.
So don't let that stop you if you get sick.
Make sure to get it right away, as it needs to be taken
within day 5 of symptoms.

Also doc prescribed Azelastine Nasal Spray.
That seems to be helping as well.

Taking lots of C and Zinc. I don't feel hungry, but
I'm asking myself eat.

Be well, stay safe.

every doc office has their own rules,
So you will just need to find out how they
want to see you.
Again I talked to my doc on phone,
and he called it in. Well, I'm pretty sure he sent an
e-script, but in any event.
I talked to him around 11am Friday, and I went to CVS
drive through about 3:30, got home and took it.

It comes in a 5 day supply. It's packaged in blister packs.
Take twice a day.

I worry about what would happen if I get infected. I am 72, have asthma, hypertension (controlled by meds), and kidney damage from a previous infection (not covid). My doctor has told me that she would not prescribe for me if I was infected. She says that it is only for immunocompromised people.

Or the pharmacy could prescribe it for you.
Aristus might have some insight here.

for pharmacies and urgent care in my area.

None of them mention rapid test and treatment. They only mention PCR tests. For treatment they say to contact your provider.

Not all pharmacies do test and treat, only certain ones. The locator site did not help at all, maybe because I am on my phone. After typing in my zip code, the "search" symbol disappeared. Could not get a result.

I think that it is just her attitude. She also thinks that covid is "no big deal" and takes pride in saying that she has had it twice. Totally ignores the differences in our ages and general health. Yes, I am looking for a different doc. She is off the rails on many other areas of healthcare, too.

That's why the program is called "test and treat." You go into the pharmacy for the test, stay there until the results are in (rapid testing), and if positive, the pharmacist can write and fill your prescription.

I have a soapy taste in my mouth, but that's likely
the Paxlovid or the nasal spray.
But I don't know, really.

My nose is pretty stopped up,
but other than that seems ok.

felt better within hours of starting Paxlovid. I am thankful for the science which gave us early detection, four vaccinations, and an oral agent for home use which has definitely made a difference. I'm still negative-so far.
