11. I had no idea what this was about, so I used Advanced Search to check for your recent OPs,

and now I think I know what happened to put you off posting in General Discussion.

You'd deleted your OP, but the replies still showed what people were reacting to.

All you'd done was mistake a parody Twitter account for the official one.

You were far from the first DUer to make that mistake, and you won't be the last. It happens a lot.

As one of the people replying to you pointed out, there were at least a couple of other DU threads about the same tweet from that parody account.

So please don't give up on General Discussion, or on posting tweets. It does help to check to make sure an account is the official account...but again, this sort of mistake is something other DUers have done, and as far as I know, none of them even considered giving up posting, since it's a very minor mistake.

I didn't get the impression anyone thought you were "purposely putting out false propaganda" though the person talking about other DUers having posted the same tweet sounded a bit cranky about it. Probably having a bad day otherwise, and NOT your fault in any way.

My advice would be to just shrug it off.

I'd've also advised NOT self-deleting your OP, and instead leaving the tweet that wasn't from the real account in your OP, but editing both the OP and the subject line to note IN CAPS that you're making a correction, that this was a parody account.

That would make it less likely anyone else would see that tweet later and think it was really from the person it pretended to be from.

It's your choice, obviously. But if all of us decided to stop posting because of any less-than-friendly responses on DU, we wouldn't have very many people posting here at all.

Most people on DU are very nice or at least polite when they disagree or critique. But all of us have had days when we're tactless.

I'd bet the person who was most critical of anyone posting parody tweets by mistake would NOT want that criticism to drive anyone away.

You can't control how people respond to you. (Just look at the replies to any tweet.) You can control how you react to their responses, and it's best not to give them any power over you.

There are a few armchair warriors whose lives are unfulfilled unless they have blasted someone for some post or other. "Get a life" can't be enforced in a court of law, remember, and there will always be some who indeed can't be bothered to get one.

You are no such person, and if it is of any consequence at all, those who would trash you are usually those who would be behind bars if refusing to get a life were a felony. Anyone who thinks you are putting out false propaganda obviously isn't very good at thinking.

If you change your mind (time doesn't heal all wounds, but it makes some of them bearable)........

messages, emails, that IMO were way over the line. I don't know if putting someone on ignore also blocks their emails. I've never put anyone on ignore.
