I started the day using the hose to add water, but since the hose was in the sun, I made sure that I ran the hot water - and they were hot! - before adding them to the dishes.
Before I even returned to the door, a black cap chickadee took a sip from one, and a Robin took a splash in the other.
The ice cubes melt immediately, but they cool the water. For a short time.
Temp. now is 98!

(12,904 posts)For so many days now. I run the sprinkler every afternoon at 4:30. I put some shallow dishes among the tomato plants. More and more birds have been showing up every day.
I feel as though Im being slow roasted.

(86,612 posts)We might get to +65F today but the river is still pretty high and it's been raining. We are expecting another surge or two before it's over, maybe ten days before the river level is out of the dangerous zone.
I feel bad for the osprey, the water everywhere is too muddy/cloudy to see even logs near the surface, they only eat fish and they have hatch-lings that should be leaving the nest by now. Those kids eat a lot.
We will be back in the heat dome in about 30 hrs. It was +92F here on Saturday and +86F yesterday before this stuff blew in.
Hopefully this bit of respite will drift into your area!

unlike Arizona it is not a dry heat here.
Not overly humid like Houston or the Southeast but definitely more so than Phoenix
