(1,293 posts)1. We were on an African safari a few years ago in the Serengeti.
There was a driver and four passengers. We were traveling at a pretty high rate of speed when he suddenly stopped, and pointed down to a sort of purple puddle on the ground. He said that a mother just had a baby, that this was the, I forget now exactly, but the umbilical chord/placenta left behind.
He charged ahead, knowing that the mother and her newborn weren't far away, and lo and behold 10 minutes later we happened upon them. Absolutely one of the most incredible/memorable experiences of my life. Seeing a newborn baby elephant only several hours after birth. And totally amazing as well as to how they just walked around as though they've had this ability for months, no big deal.
