Let's not give him any dignity he doesn't deserve. He was a liar, a classist, and a racist form day one, and everyone knew it. Jimmy Breslin, back in the day, described him as a small man in search of a balcony. He campaigned on improving NY schools, but he cut school budgets instead and test scores deteriorated further. Remember Patrick Dorismond? The african-american security guard who was approached outside a bar by an undercover cop that tried to get him to say where they could buy marijuana? The one who got ticked off that he'd been approached for drugs, so the cop murdered him? Giuliani went nuts trying to destroy his reputation to boot-lick the cops. The idiot actually said that Dorismond was "no altar boy," when in fact Dorismond had been an actual altar boy, and had attended the SAME CATHOLIC SCHOOL AS GIULIANI. He did the same during the Amadou Diallo and Abner Louima police scandals. Giuliani was well known at that time as a bully who gay-baited and made racially disparaging remarks, including against David Dinkins. His policies to clean up crime in NYC were extremely racist, and when challenged about his attitude toward black NYC residents, he famously said, “They’re going to have to learn how to discipline themselves in the way in which they speak also.” He used excessive force and intimidation tactics against dissenters, from calling them terrorists to stationing snipers on the buildings when they protested at city hall. After 9/11, he got a brief bump (about 80% approval 4 weeks after the attack, when people were confused and scared), mostly through self-promotion and PR, but he was not in favor (44% unfavorable to 45% favorable) by the time he left office.
Since then, as we all know, he had nothing to say except "noun, verb, 9/11." He was a living punch line, nothing more.
He was always a fool, and has always conducted himself as a fool. Supporting Dump was only one more foolish and evil act in a long line of foolish and evil acts.
