At age 22 in 1974

To some interesting company in 1995

Leaving two generations more of high class women after us:

And, despite two heavy battles with cancer, emerging victorious with a smile, even after putting up with me for 48 years, here 2 months ago:

Happy 70th birthday to the very classy lady whose only major error in judgement in her life was marrying me (shhh! don't let on! She still doesn't know!)

My family boasts few winners of "Beat The Reaper."
All the women in her family have beaten cancer, some twice, like she has. As for me, it's not a question of "if," but "when," and no one in my family has beaten it. We make hay while the sun shines, and worry about the rest when shows up. Might as well enjoy the show while it lasts, right?

of your beautiful family. I hope all of you beautiful people have a fantastic weekend celebrating her birthday!
Great photo from 1995, too...

(59,877 posts)We already have one daughter, her two daughters, her S.O., and a friend who was the Moscow correspondent for West German Radio news from 1993 to 1999. This afternoon, the rest show up minus a couple of late Covid infections. We are having some Tzatziki brought in from the local Greek place, and some chicken Tikka-Massala and some chicken curry from the local Indian place.
If past experience is any indication, we'll have enough leftovers to feed the Chinese army for a week. Anyone in the neighborhood and hungry?

I am happy for the both of you.

(59,877 posts)The second one was scarier, since her diagnosis was a form of cancer known here in Germany as "Der Mörder," or The Murderer. She was that one in ten thousand where it was discovered by accident in its initial stages before it had a chance to spread.
