Just home from Pro-Choice demonstration in Charleston, IL.

Stood in Morton Park along the main road through town holding a sign and hollering for two hours.

About 30 people there. A tiny blue dot in a very red area, thanks to Eastern Illinois University. I reckon I was the oldest there.

Lots of cars honking and giving thumbs up and peace signs. A few cars shouting obscenities and flipping the bird.

One physical confrontation when a woman jumped out and charged in, yelling "Baby killers!" and the like. No serious contact that I saw. Two guys got out of the car she was in and physically dragged her away. A few cars kept circling and yelling at us. Two separate groups came and brought us bottles of water.

Got interviewed for local paper. Wish I had been better prepared, because I stammered and don't feel I got my point across effectively. I'll rehearse a bit and have some talking points for the next time.

Made contact with a group called Coles Progressives, which I will check into.

Had a big sign, and my old arms are sore, but I waved it high.
