My dear friend, Linda and I, just saw Baz Lurhman's latest masterpiece.....ELVIS starring an impressive Austin Butler in the title role and the ever incredible Tom Hanks as Col. Tom Parker.
Austin Butler captured the very essence that was Elvis Presley the man, the music, the Rock N' Roll Legend, the ultimate showman many have tried to replicate. The only one who comes ever so close, Rock Legend, Freddie Mercury.
This is a film NOT to be missed. The sets, costumes, makeup, screenplay, sound, editing, all top notch to carry this film off. Not to mention a terrific supporting cast. This film does not disappoint. I even learned a few things I did not know about the musical influences early on in Elvis's career.
I recommend seeing this film on the big screen to experience the scope of it before it becomes available through streaming. *****/5

(16,846 posts)I agree with your take totally. Even the things I'd nitpick were minor and decisions that were made to condense the movie...it was perhaps the best way of telling the story of Elvis and the Colonel. I was skeptical of Butler from the previews but he was amazing. He really captured the essence of Elvis and there were a few times where I thought "Damn he looks just like him". I plan on seeing it again before it leaves theaters.

(1,307 posts)Interesting that Ann Hornaday of the Washington Post gave it 1.5 out of 4 stars.
She didn't like the fast movement among other things. It does move fast, just
gotta sit back and enjoy.
