Honey, the neighbors are using the pool again! (Original Post) littlemissmartypants Jun 2022 OP
The question isn't whether bears shit in the woods; it's whether they pee in your pool. Ocelot II Jun 2022 #1

Seen or heard of a black bear having that many cubs in one season. Three or four in rare cases but five..? Sometimes they steal cubs from their parents, though. Grizzly bears do it once in a while but one sow trying to raise four is the most I know of and the chances all the cubs will make it are slim.

That sow really pumps them out! I've never heard of that but I know that deer who have a really fat habitat can have triplets since her environment supports that many. Could be so with the black bears, life's good so they can afford to have more young. Several species work that way.

And a bear's biology works in such a unique way. Once mating activities cease, the actual gestation doesn't happen until later in the year when the feeding frenzy is well under way. It seems that if the female doesn't get enough nutrition before hibernation, her body will not compete the gestation process to give birth in the den over the winter, if she's fat enough she can bear three, rarely four, especially for grizzly bears.

They really are our superiors.

a couple of cubs went down the slide, but not into the water. Also mom got tired of that floating thingy and drug it out of the pool, but not before trying to get on it 🤣🤣
