Been twisting multiple ankles with the flips (I mean "shower shoes" ) - growing old and having to submit to WEAKNESS is a bummer.
Gonna use these, not just for showers:
*** ON EDIT: Since the topic shifted to hiking type sandals, substituted this pic for the first one that was generic from the internet, NOT a pic of me. Possibly the original one can be viewed in the list of Edits, if somebody has nothing to do.

I think it's the original design brand from way back. The (first) pic in the OP is generic from the internet. Has been substituted by a pic of Teva, since it was asked about.
Had to get up to look for the brand because have had them for years and have only used them a half dozen times because they looked geeky to me, unlike my beloved flip flops, I mean shower shoes. But am now twisting my ankles in my beloved flip flops, I mean shower shoes, so need to adapt, looks be relegated.
***ON EDIT: When I got this brand, I had to sew an extension to the ankle straps because they weren't long enough to go around my ankles, especially the one where the fractured fibula was that is always swollen.

(1,266 posts)That piece that runs between the big toe and the 2nd toe felt irritating and unnatural, and I always had to curl my toes to keep the flip flops from falling off when I walked, though even that didn't work. Plus the danger of getting caught up in the loose heels, tripping on them, having them twist sideways, and more things I don't even like to think about.
I love Tevas. They're great to wear in the water if you don't want to get poked, cut or stabbed by glass, shells, or fishhooks.
To edit--the Tevas I have and love are not like the ones in the photo, which also have that piece running between big toe and 2nd toe. Mine have a velcro strap that goes over the lower part of my foot, so that all the toes are free and have nothing between them.

Teva sandals have support. You can even wear them hiking. And they are reasonably priced.

(2,244 posts)I too am a flip flops or barefoot kinda gal, having lived in temperate SoCal weather all my life, but I did like the style of your original post photo and had wondered if they were available for women. I'll have to check. The Tevas I had lasted forever; hopefully, their quality is still as good. Sorry about your fractured fibula, I find these days that pretty much everything hurts. I miss the obliviousness of youth...

He loved to wear them but would always curse them out for all the mishaps they caused. They were especially problematic in the dorm stairways. I think he had multiple mishaps there.
Other than the ease of getting them off and on, I think you will come to appreciate the Tevas with time.
