Not to mention how easy it is to get from terminal to station for distribution costs.

I don't think any place in North Carolina has that.

I'm also in WNC, and the stations here are mostly at 4.19. If you go to neighboring foothill counties, it's lower. I got gas for 3.79 in Caldwell County yesterday.

For instance, this article might help explain it

https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/sound-off-south-florida/fl-ne-hk-gas-prices-20190226-story.html

Can't speak to whether your area has them but they are not uncommon.

Taxes won't explain all of it though.

Frankly for us, it is a function of competition as it relates to zoning restrictions. Some areas make it very difficult to built new stations so the few that exist charge a premium. It is not uncommon for those stations to be $.50 higher than just a few miles away.

As far as I can tell, counties or cities in NC do not have the ability to add local taxes to gasoline sales. NC's current gas tax is 38.5 cents per gallon.

Does Florida use gas tax money to pay for roads, or does it just go into the pot to be used for whatever purpose the legislature chooses?

All of the funding goes to transportation projects

Florida happens to have a pretty well funded roadway system compared to other states.

I am an Engineer and sometimes work on related projects. When I go to other states, I notice a definite dropoff in roadway conditions. Especially related to safety upgrades and maintenance. That is almost always a function of how well they are funded. It also helps that we don't deal with road salts.

I was reading from several sources yesterday that prices are expected to go back to the $4+ range at the end of summer.

location.

Airport Rd is the cheapest while currently West Ash. near I-40 and East Ash.near Parkway,I-40 and Biltmore remain highest places. I attribute the high spots around here lately to stations gouging summer tourists.
