It is no secret that the folks who make TV commercials want their ads to be memorable. "Back in the day", this was achieved by being extremely creative or clever or cute or novel. Nowadays, the most "memorable" commercials are either the most disgusting or mindlessly irritating.
And, the irritation is amplified by the fact that these offensive ads seem to be repeated endlessly.
I wonder if any others vow to never buy their insurance or their deodorizer or their---whatever---BECAUSE of their commercials.

(15,148 posts)The really clever ads are so appreciated.
It used to be in France that the commercials were all shown in one big hunk at the end of the hour. So it was important for those people making them to be memorable.
That being said, I wish ALL of those pharmaceutical ads would implode.

(2,113 posts)Mr Dixie and I have a running joke whenever we are especially annoyed by some company's commercial, that "they're on the list." Because we are older, though - and considering we haven't ever actually put our "list" in writing - I couldn't tell you who's on the "list" or why. Lucky for them, if I don't write it down, it doesn't happen.

(4,394 posts)Most don't speak to me as a consumer anymore, anyway - I can't afford the car, the drug, the insurance, the legal beagles, the cosmetics - pfft...long past sexy attraction factors. Got all the digital "devices" and probably at least one digital service too many. I even hate the ones for animal charities. I run, run away to fill the dishwasher, the washing machine, empty the dryer, let the dog out.

(17,216 posts)You say that's a shame, because I'm missing a lot of great shows? I say there is not enough time in the world for me to enjoy all the great entertainment available, so given that I must necessarily miss some, let it be that which is funded by offensive commercials.

(637 posts)I'm really late to this thread, and for that I apologize.
But since I lost most of my hearing a few years back and now depend on hearing aids I'm really sensitive to audio editing. For instance, the Jimmy "JJ" Walker commercial for insurance REALLY grinds on my ears. Some of the words such as "NOW" have been enhanced and it HURTS to hear them.
Same with TFG when during the Ellipse speech he told the mob to go to the "CAPITOL" -- that HURT, and he sounded like Gilbert Gottfried.
It sux, or maybe I'm just a cantankerous old codger. Yeah, yeah, that's probably it.

(34,137 posts)Wisk is still on my "do NOT buy" list even though they dropped that ad campaign over twenty years ago. There are other products on that list, but Wisk was the first.
