When and why did "invite" become a noun, and "impact" become a verb? I missed several memos I guess.

The current number one on my shit list: gift.
For my eighth grade will, I gifted Tony Rodino my used guitar strings.*
. . . . "gifted"
Impact as a verb is number two.
* I'll have to dig out my '77 K-8 yearbook to show you the eighth grade wills: I really did will my used guitar strings to Tony Rodino. God only knows what nefarious use he put them to.

(18,529 posts)According to Merriam-Webster, the usage goes back at least 400 years. But saw a resurgence in the mid-90s, which may fit the timeline for the OP's other words.
