Its lovely.

(47,940 posts)I'm not aware of a single orchid that's a parasite. I also really don't recognize that one.

(29,949 posts)Im not an expert. This is from a friend who has lived here for 40 years. I dont know how accurate.
Beautiful . I have lots of these mountain orchids. Some white with yellow center. Others lavender and purple.
They get to be big bushed with many orchids. Th ey are called one day orchids as only last one day. Some days see none. Other days many bloom.

(47,940 posts)Fascinating. Most orchid flowers are quite long-lasting. I have one now that will probably be in bloom for months. I gather they're quite common in Costa Rica. How lucky you are to have them.
We had lady slipper orchids where I lived as a kid. I hope those plants are still there. That area hasn't been developed, so maybe they are.

(47,940 posts)And couldn't find anything like that plant. Darn. I would have loved to know what it is. The leaves are quite unusual. They don't look like most orchid leaves at all, but the flower is definitely orchid.
I think I'm going to see if I can find a book that will tell me. Remember books?
I just ordered a used copy of a field guide to Costa Rican orchids. I'm bookmarking this thread.
I don't know why on earth I need a field guide to Costa Rican orchids, but I'm sure it will have pretty pictures.

(47,940 posts)The orchid is obviously happy there. You might not choose as good a spot for it.

(4,725 posts)An orchid, correct? Is that the only one, or are they common. I know some types are rare, and considered endangered species. Thank you for sharing that, photo.

(2,681 posts)Just to see green would be miracle here in North Texas, let alone a beautiful flower. Is that a lady slipper? I have never seen one in person. I am thrilled when I get dog-tooth violets in my front yard . Been so dry this year and with water level so low, I have quit watering except for the foundation of our house,

It rains everyday here. Quite often we count our blessing as: just think how much Texas would love this rain.

(47,940 posts)I've never seen anything like it. The leaves are really unusual for an orchid.
