In commemoration of Operation Dragoon, the Allied invasion of Provence, which started on 15 August 1944.
Funny how many French people still remember the fight against the fascists.

And a couple more -

Took this shot in Normandy in 2015 on DDay anniversary.
Schoolkids made banners for the town garden in Pont l'Eveque: "Thank you for liberating us."

How long of you lived in Provence? We’re you fluent I feel French prior to moving there? And did you already have friends in the area before making the move? What a wonderful adventure you are on!

I’ve been to Paris 7 or 8 times, but have not made it to Provence. It is on my list.

Thank you in advance!

In May of 2018 we sold our house in Philadelphia, had a couple of months when we were essentially homeless(staying with friends, housesitting, renting a flat and living out of suitcases), and then moved into Aix full time in September 2018.

We had been visiting France for more than 35 years, fell in love with Provence about 10 or 12 years ago, and made friends here in Aix in the Anglophone community.

My French is improving, and I study every day. Tough to become fluent here, as there is a huge English-speaking group of folks. But I'm trying. I have to get up to a B-2 level and get a TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) certificate before I can apply for nationality after we've been here five years. And I definitely want to acquire French nationality, because I want to be able to vote.

Come to Provence. It's lovely. Hot in the summer, but still lovely.

And if you come, pm me, and we can have coffee.

I studied French in high school and a bit in college (a long time ago) but far from fluent. Thank you for the tips. For my work I lived in Shanghai for 4 years and Madrid for 1 and loved both.
