The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just found out that a good friend of mine from high school died.
I have been in touch with him over the years and last year found out he had cancer in his abdomen. He had survived bone cancer in high school and had his leg amputated. He went on to become a cardiologist and had a wonderful family of his own. He was only 57.
I'm heartbroken. He was always upbeat despite his troubles. What an amazing guy.
RIP Mike.

(25,392 posts)I have a group of high school friends that get together on and off. Mike was one who had moved away, but I still kept in touch via phone and I got to see him a couple of years ago in the city he was living in.
We're all in reasonably good health, as we're in our mid-50s. Mike was a true genius and a caring individual who really helped his patients, and who cared for his friends and family deeply.

I'll raise a glass to Dr Mike this weekend...
Guinness of course...

(9,354 posts)Your wondering is not any kind of ill wish - and sane people are aware that all life ends in death eventually.
I would be worrying what kind of fantasy world we have created - or has been created for us - that we might mistake the acceptance of reality for sickness.

(24,722 posts)The mayor of my city passed away last week at the age of 57 of pancreatic cancer. Mayor Engen was in my high school graduating class and went on to be the 50th and longest service mayor of beautiful blue Missoula. I wasn't friends with him but being the same age and as someone who has been in my periphery my whole life this affected me deeply. He was such a good person...he cared about people and worked to make the lives of his fellow citizens better every single day. He sounds a lot like your friend, Mike.
Please accept my condolences...I wish you peace during these hard days.
