(18,625 posts)I watch the occasional chess match, and the great Gary Kasparov comes out of seclusion every year to do a little competition just to show he still has the chops. So, he was playing the current #6 in the world, and came really close to cleaning his clock. In the comments section, somebody [not me, I know better by now] posted "This guy Kasparov seems pretty good, he may have a future!" More than half the replies were people in various shades of mansplaining, shock, horror, or outrage informing the poster that Kasparov is one of the greatest players ever in chess. As if somebody who watched chess videos wouldn't already know that. That's not anger, or if it is, it is a generalized, formless thing, not connected with any real injury.

(131,199 posts)when those kinds of alerts turn up. But I don't know what difference that makes, because the choice is binary - you can vote either to keep the post or hide it, regardless of the poster's intent.

(18,625 posts)The words may clearly break protocol (often do), but the intent seems just as clearly to be sarcasm. If I rule that it breaks protocol, the post is hidden, if I do not, I'm not enforcing protocol. 'Tis a dilemma.

(13,072 posts)whatever that choice is. (Two choices now that I think about it -- Close call but does not break, or Clearly does not break).
Those other choices, like "Misunderstood the meaning of the post" don't come up unless you first vote that it breaks.

Different Drummer
(9,083 posts)I was diagnosed with learning disabilities and have been harshly judged by some people my entire life as a result. It's an experience that's made me sensitive to what other people might be going through in their lives and, as a result, I don't judge other people's DU posts, nor do I alert. I also refuse to serve on juries.
