I recently posted about the movie Death of Stalin and it seemed to generate a lot of interest

Although I loved the portrail of Zhukov I don’t think it was very accurate. He didn’t seeem like the kind of guy who would showe up with his chest covered in all his medals. On tge other hand showing up aarvtge Kremlin maybe he would. I’ve read Stalin was afraid to kill him because of his war hero status. And while he saved Leningrad and Moscow he threw men into battle with little regard for casukties. I suppose that attitude came from Stalin, Zhukov issued orders early on to avoid costly frontal arttacks. It took his officers time to relearn maneuver warfare after the ourges of the 30s.

The movie necessarily condenses and simplifies some things.

The depiction of Zhukov conveys the idea that he is not a politician and has legitimate actual accomplishments in his field. The medals are part of the presence as a legitimate hero, in contrast to the sniveling weasels running the political apparatus.

Fantastic movie, though.

I saw it on a plane a few years ago and was laughing out loud for most of it. Luckily, no one was sitting next to me!

I had been doing the “Huge Ackman” thing about Hugh Jackman for years with my wife.

So, we’re on a long flight and she starts laughing pretty hard.

She stops and tells me “Watch Night at the Museum 3. Just do it.”

I usually use flights to sleep but started the movie.

When they got to that gag, I had to stifle a scream so hard I dang near got a hernia.

at the Kremlin's Hall of Heroes. So full military regalia was probably in order.

I don't think that any of those actors ever worked together before, but it came across as if this was a play that had been running on Broadway.

In fact, it would make for a very good Broadway play.

Also by Armando Iannucci, and basically a British TV show version of it with some of the same themes
