For me, it's cold weather. And BS, I have no tolerance for people peeing on my shoe and telling me it's raining. Get outta here!
*Not that anyone ever liked BS (other than the MAGA crowd).

I'm very sorry to hear this, quaint. Chocolate is one of life's guilty pleasures, IMO.

The rest. I am baking a pineaplapplecake now. Recipe I found on the net! Could you handle that? It simply uses crushed pineapple instead of the other ingredients. No oil,, even to grease the pan.

(18,579 posts)But used French Vanilla cake mix I already had! I am always experimenting with cakes, but this one did not even use a mixer. Cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar did. She used some of the pineapple in her icing. Paula and I did not.

I grew up in warm climates before moving to the Pacific Northwest. I grew accustomed to cold rainy weather, which suits my solitary, reclusive nature.
I dread the approach of summer now. Bright sunny days make me feel guilty for staying inside.

(8,847 posts)the little filter in your head that flashes "DON'T SAY THAT!!!" disappears, and decades of words and thoughts come spilling out and it's exhilarating.. in my younger days, my mommy days, my wife of an attorney days, I kept my mouth shut for the sake of my family, but now as a widow with adult children/grandchildren living their lives hundreds of miles away, I find living alone liberating not lonely...no compromising, no holding back for fear of offending..getting old is not bad
I will say this..I hate standing in line, I hate stupid people giving me unsolicited advise, I despise Trump and the Republican Party as a whole (sorry Liz Cheney, but your moment of conscience does not move you into my saint column..you and I do not detest Trump for the same reasons)..and as much as I love my family, I do not trust them to respect my wishes...if I need help, I'll ask..

(7,080 posts)The whole country was catering to us boomers our entire lives. The gal at the makeup counter few years back told me they were now only offering makeup for the younger gals. That is when I knew it was over for my group. People that wear their religion on their sleeves. 25 years of diabetes which translates to being hungry/on-a-diet all that time. (18,567 posts)Mostly, it's the fault of the media, for both the incessant commercials and the idiocy of most of the sportscasters. But I am finding the rules changes made in the sports (especially instant replay officiating) are making the games far less enjoyable. True, in the case of football especially, there are rules changes necessary for the health of the players, so one can hardly fault them, but it does make the game different from when I was younger.
Commercialization has ruined a lot of things. When the NCAA started selling sponsor's rights to bowl game names, and when stadiums started being named after corporations, I began to be disenchanted with them. Okay, it's their thing, and they can do what they want to do, but I don't have to participate.
Although I was never a big fan of the Olympics, once they abandoned all pretense of "amateurism" and began permitting professionals full participation in the games, it completely invalidated them, as far as I'm concerned. Which is an overreaction, because not all Olympic athletes are professionals, but the most-publicized events are all the province of paid athletes.
Hell, at this point in history, even chess players are paid professionals. 'tis the way of the world, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

(62,135 posts)shouldn't have to accept as normal.
I'm a boomer, so I remember when our generation wasn't supposed to trust anyone over 30, and 40 was old, and we saw nothing wrong with singing about hoping to die before you get old.
I'm thankful that a lot of the musicians I admired then - the ones smart enough not to kill themselves, intentionally or not, at a young age - have realized that getting older doesn't have to mean decrepit-old.
Useless-old.
Out-of-touch-old.
I'm thankful for organizations like AARP and their reminders that being older doesn't necessarily mean being less active or less creative or less involved.
I realize that some health problems that are hard to cope with are inevitable (especially if due to injuries), but a lot are preventable or reversible.
And I like to see older people focus on what they can still do, and how healthy and active they can still be.
I saw entirely too much of nursing homes during the last years of my mom's life. It left me feeling more than ever that everyone should do everything possible to avoid ending up in one. And it was particularly sad to see that a number of those people had resigned themselves to ending up in a nursing home, even when they shouldn't have, years before they ended up there. In many ways, they'd just given up.
I prefer focusing on health and creativity and staying involved and staying in touch with people, as long as possible. And focusing less on being older.
