My husband took our son to the hospital ER on Friday and they ran tests. We clicked on the computer and found that he has a aneurysm in his spine, why was he let go? He has an appointment with a Thoracic Surgeon tomorrow. We got the bill for $4000 from the hospital, even though we pay 358/month for his Blue Cross/Blue Shield as they said he was not authorized to have the tests done by his Prime Doctor I want to scream-----why was he released from the hospital. So we call up the hospital Social worker to apply for Medicade. I can't understand . It's called PA Compass. One question was the worth of our cemetary plot. What the hell. All we want for him is assistance in health care .
we will continue to pay for BCBS. Sorry, if this is rambling. See bottom post--still confused.

(4,483 posts)which can be done pretty instantly. Ask your son's doctor's office staff to help you out with this.
What a terrible situation--I'm so sorry, and I hope this works out for your family. It's ridiculous that you pay so much for insurance, and then when you need it--really need it--POOF! Please let us know what happens.

But surely, a doctor at the hospital had to authorize it. F=ck them. And our primary care Doctor is part of the Allegheny Health System. Now hubby says he has two. I cried the whole time I was taking Dolly for a walk. I'm sorry for bringing this here, but I have no family so to speak as I went no contact with the psyopaths for calling my son a little bastard whose real mother and family didn't want him. Thanks for listening and being here for me.I will let you know how it goes.

(9,657 posts)We need national healthcare not insurance
Insurance exists for the purpose of making money and they do that by denying treatment
You might be better off saying he is an independent adult, depending on what state you are in
Good luck

(58,785 posts)Imo, you should pay absolutely no attention to answers on social media forums that aren't from a healthcare expert. Certainly not politically oriented ones. Talk about confusing the issue!
Applying for Medicare and/or other government assistance -- ASAP -- sounds like a great idea. Most questions won't be confusing at all once you know the reason they're asked; a cemetery plot would be considered a financial asset. But get some help to avoid making a mistake of the so-called unauthorized-imaging type.
Of course, call to find out how to get that imaging bill covered by your insurance, though not highest priority now.
But, high priority is to start asking how things should be done so that they'll probably be covered by standard insurance.
Best wishes. Your son'll very likely be fine. That he was sent home to follow up outpatient is a good sign healthwise.

(25,223 posts)lAs my husband typed, I search through the files for our savings, burial plots, any benefits my husband got from the Fed Gov. etc, etc. My husband has his PHD in Chemical Engineering for the DOE, but he did his undergraduate at Cornel in pre med. So he is able through some of test results. Thanks for encouraging words. I think I'll take a nap.

(25,223 posts)He said he found nothing wrong with him. Set up an appointment with a Gastroenterologist. Said aneurisms were normal. WTF.
I finished the forms for PA Compass. We now have a patient advocate.
