(25,988 posts)My worst-ever encounter with a dog was with a little cocker spaniel named Precious, who bolted out the front door of her owner on a looooonng chain. She was going hard for the ankles as I deftly Pepe-le-pued my way backward on the porch. Unfortunately for me, I ran out of porch before Precious ran out of chain. You ever fall backward into a rose bush? Ive got scars.

(21,612 posts)Our next door neighbors were close friends of the family, almost relatives. My aunt had married one of their sons. So we often dropped in on each other without announcement, especially in summer when our back doors were left open, except for the screen, of course.
They had a cocker spaniel named Lady. My father was in their kitchen and I was eager to ask his permission for something. I rushed in their back door and Lady took me for an intruder. She was just inside the door when I barreled through it. She leaped up and nipped my face.
There was no damage. Lady's nip did not break the skin. But it startled me so much that I cried. For months after that I was afraid of dogs. I got over it and even got a cocker spaniel puppy a few years later.

(51,630 posts)I taught them to "die" after I say "Bang" and pretend to shoot one of them. They would lie down until I said "reincarnate" and they would come back to life (I got the idea from the TV show Taxi). When the two dogs were next to each other the one I would shoot hardly ever did the trick but the other one would do it even though she wasn't the one who was shot. It was funny.
