The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAugust was always a good month for selling the evening edition. I'm not sure why. I picked up my
papers at the shack around five oclock. Jackie was the Shack Master. He called us bad names and yelled a lot. You had to count your papers because Jackie would cheat you. I paid for my fifty after counting them.
I started at The Clock on High St. and worked my way north toward campus hitting all the bars on the way. Neffs was always the best. It was mostly hillbillies from West Virginia. They usually gave me a quarter or even a half a buck for a dime paper.
After selling my last few in the bar at the College Bowl Id head back to Fifth and High.
Id stop at the burger joint next to Ackers Hardware and get a cheeseburger and double malted. The ladies that worked there were always fighting. After filling my glass with the malt they poured the rest down the sink. I asked them to give it to me but they never did. I think they liked me anyway.
