Last edited Fri Oct 28, 2022, 09:57 AM - Edit history (1)

My television shows, Hill Street Blues, CBS Saturday Night line up. ER phase ended
My craft phases at various times-- did crochet for the Vets and seniors. Painted kid themed for a Native American School in ND. rock paintings using rocks I borrowed from various restaurants .
Doing the Silver Slippers, made me feel old. phase ended
skeet shooting--ended when the Gun Club stopped shooting.
Back to polymer clay or buying all the sheet for polymer clay

What are your addictions--something YOU can not get enough of????? But in my case lost interest or went cold turkey.

I had books on parties, brunches, holiday theme,BBC, Quick Easy dinners, etc, etc. I would fold down the edge of the page that had my favorite recipe. I had a cabinet in the kitchen for the recipe books. Did I ever use them? No. A couple of years ago I went through all the stuff I didn't use and took them to Goodwill. I had three UHall boxes full of these books. The pandemic helped me overcome my addiction as it was quicky in and out.I hope makes good use of them.

I've begun by walking two miles most days. I have a lot to overcome, the first item being to peel off about 70 pounds.* I also have to regain some coordination, for which I'm in PT.

Although it'll be slow, I *will* see you and millions of our like-minded friends on the courts, hopefully within the next 16 months/before I turn 61. (I'll be 60!! In four months. Woot!)

Wish I still had my Chris Evert racquet. 😁 Best that I don't, I guess. I'd be laughed off the court.

* I won't wait to play until I lose it all. In fact I know playing will help.

addicted to decorating I called in sick from school and got the babysitter for him. Each tree had a different theme--MM tree, Victorian tree, Arctic tree, Rudolf tree, Ginderbread tree, Gold, Silver tree. Every fricken window had to have a wreath. This does't include the outside with a goat wagon fillded with Gifts. As he go older the magic wore off. One ssummer I packed all the trees, but one, and donated everything to Goodwill. My house looked like Santa lived there.

My name is deb55 and I was addicted to Christmas decorating.

One year, my neighbor's sister complained that it was ridiculous to leave Christmas decorations up after Christmas. I told my neighbor to tell her to squint her eyes and those red bows would turn into hearts for Valentine's Day. She was so nosy.

My daughters and granddaughters are now having a ball going through my Christmas room. They have remembered those displays when they were kids and are doing the same to their homes. We are recycling Christmas. It gives me a good, warm feeling that they remember our Christmas Eve celebrations.

I need one on in order to fall asleep.

The odd thing is I never used to fall asleep while reading. I'd finish a chapter or book, turn off the light and go to sleep. But for the past 20 years I've been listening to books at night, and drift off at some point.

So I guess I always need a story before bed. Lol. That's my addiction.

I believe it’s more common for the husband to kill the wife than the other way around.
I’ve gotten kind of picky about true crime books as so many of them are poorly written. Ann Rule and Jack Olsen, both gone now, were the masters of the genre. Gregg Olsen (says he’s not related to Jack) is another great true crime writer but you have to be careful with his books as he also writes fiction (no!).

If I could explain something to someone else, I could incorporate it into my life. Memory develops from recollection and explanation.
It turns out I left retirement in 2003 and went into actual teaching.
I taught for 15 years, mostly kids who came to me as seniors with a 1.2 GPA and who had never read a book. My job was to help them pass the FCAT, (Florida) ACT or SAT to graduate. Best experience of my life.
Didn't get them all, but 75% got a diploma.

*obviously Covid has put a 😥🤬 damper on a lot of
this.

Most of this goes back a long ways in my life! There are connections between a lot of these; like I love drawing landscapes, sometimes with SciFi cities, or SciFi nature). I've added various art materials, approaches like I added digital art along with my traditional materials. Same with photography (instamatic, Traditional SLR, Digital, cell phone).

I learned knitting in my late 40s, crochet in my early 50's. Making art from a young age, jewelry by my early teens (not metalsmithing).
Half Greek-American. Picked up Indian food through a friend late teens.
My dad had me putting flyers for local races with under our apt building neighbor's doors when I was ?12.
Been on DU for 2 1/2 years. So that's my newest! 😄

Yeah, I get bored occasionally. Mostly - want to do X but too little money at times, or X not available, accessable etc, too little time (at times).

I lived in Maryland for 15 years. I saw many birds I'd never seen before: red-belly woodpeckers, yellow finches, juncos . . . Bob help me, I can't remember any more at the moment. 😢 I saw a few I knew from my home, SoCal: house sparrows, hummers, house finches.

Oh: of course other bird food eaters were squirrel birds and groundhog birds. The latter were enormous. The former were relentless.

And vultures. They often roosted on our deck. They were tagged; every time I saw them, I called them in.

No one does period dramas better than the Brits, IMO. I think part of the appeal is realism that comes from not being as familiar with most of the actors, so there is no feeling of, “Oh, there’s Brad Pitt pretending to be so-and-so.”

It is interesting that almost no one on Call The Midwife has an easy delivery. It does make me think that Mother Nature could have come up with a better way - a zipper, Velcro, a cervix that doesn’t take hours of significant discomfort to thin out and open up.
