I heard that Europe is expecting a warm winter. I'm not so sure the same thing is going to happen in Florida. In the last week my security cameras have picked up lots of movement. But it's not just the movement of animals that's the problem. That part is normal. But one night is was a HUGE Armadillo, next night it was a HUGE possum. And last night a HUGE raccoon woke us up, trying to break through the roofline.
So, we are either in for a population explosion, or these animals are sensing something big coming our way.
By comparison, in the last couple years I remember seeing the animals not so fat at this time of the year. And I remember thinking we were going to have mild winters, which mostly, we did.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That actually brought me up short. Holy moly! That's a racoon? This dude had to be wearing size 12s!

(38,034 posts)Every night the motion light comes on and I see an old, fat, dark possum looking for and eating it. Not always fond of every wild animal, but have a soft spot for possums.

Raccoons can turn around inside their own skin and get you.

(17,911 posts)I keep food out there for my stray kitties all the time. Something was making noise out there, so I opened my door to check it out. A big possum was staring right at me when I opened the door. I said, "go away," and he slowly and carefully walked down the steps and into the yard. You don't really see that many possums in town like this. Usually when you see possums, they're dead on country roads. It seems like coons are everywhere these days. Don't know if there's any significance to it or not. Maybe they're trying to find food that they can't find in the wild. Maybe there are too many around and there is too much competition for the food in the forests and other wild places.

(1,499 posts)I had a night cam set up outside a few years ago. I live in a fairly urban area of the Northeast. I was really surprised by seeing several oppossums in different places I had it set up. I had no idea there were any in the area before I set up the night vision cam.
