Taylor Swift scores one of the most historic weeks in the 64-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as she becomes the first artist to claim the surveys entire top 10 in a single frame.
Swift surpasses Drake, who logged nine of the Hot 100s top 10 for a week in September 2021.
Leading the way for Swift on the Hot 100, Anti-Hero launches at No. 1, marking her ninth career leader.
All 10 songs in the Hot 100s top tier are from Swifts new LP Midnights, which, released Oct. 21 on Republic Records, blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with the biggest week for any release in seven years.

(23,236 posts)It is a significant achievement, but can only be compared apples to apples with recent streaming and download focused charts, not with pre-internet charts that counted radio plays or physical sales only.

(33,643 posts)But her 2020 album folklore blows this album away in my book, and it's later 2020 follow-up evermore is a bit better too.
I don't hate it or anything, it's solid work, but ... my fave tracks are from the 'deluxe' version (Midnight 3am Edition) of the album, which includes work with her previous collaborator Aaron Dessner, who helped her make folklore and evermore. On the album proper, I really really like Midnight Rain.
In the long run I think those two pandemic-era albums, and Red, will be considered her classics. And maybe her next album, or her next
I do like that this happened, though, to be clear. She's good peeps and immensely talented.

(33,643 posts)I'm sure lots of the lyrics are great, she's a brilliant songwriter, but ... folklore has a more relaxed pace in the vocal delivery that just syncs with my brain processing speed, where I just find myself drawn in and really HEARING what's being said. Midnight is a maybe a little too poppy and fast-paced for me to fully enjoy like I did with folklore.
There's also a lot more nature-sounding instrumentation/arrangements on folklore which I also appreciate. It feels more organic and collaborative in general, instrumental passages are given some chance to breathe, etc.
And Midnight doesn't have any tracks that have nearly the emotional impact of Cardigan and Exile, nor the pop perfection of August and Invisible Strings. And Epiphany is just a straight-up gorgeous song.
I could see people with different (but still good) tastes thinking Midnight is better, but not for me.

(16,953 posts)so I've kind of gone back. I prefer those two (w/evermore) but that's just my taste. And yep...Epiphany...man what a song.

It may not change your opinion of her 'typical genre', but she definitely showed she can do another, much more classic genre ... incredibly well.
I honestly haven't heard a better album, taken in entirety, yet this decade. Not kidding. And believe me those are words I NEVER EVER thought I'd say.
It's a little close though cause I also absolutely love The Strokes - The Adults are Talking and The Killers - My Own Souls Warning from this decade.

(5,829 posts)and appreciate that fans don't have to purchase anything, just endure a few seconds of ads at start of some of the videos. All of her songs are posted on official youtube videos from this and her previous two albums and many from earlier releases so it's easy to understand the lyrics and see who the collaborators are on each song.
