1. Jimmy Webb was writing the song when Glen Campbell's manager called

They wanted a follow-up to "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" with another song with a city name in the title (yes, that's sometimes how songs got written in the 60s). Jimmy sent off a demo of "Wichita Lineman" with its two verses and then didn't hear anything back for a while.

The next thing he heard was a phone call from Glen Campbell himself (they'd never met to this time) who said that "Wichita Lineman" song was great, and would be on his next album. Jimmy protested that the song wasn't finished, and Glen laughed and said, "It is now!"

I wonder how many third verses have been written to this song?
