Helen Mirren's Wild Keith Moon Story (Late Night with Conan O'Brien, 4/1/2008)
Ran across this among the first YouTube videos I saw this morning, probably because of YouTube's algorithm. I'd been watching a Who video again and again since last night, one I posted in another thread here: https://democraticunderground.com/10181729925
This interview clip is a gem, and it's worth watching in its 10-minute entirety, but if you have only a few minutes to spare, the story about Keith Moon starts at 7:38.
The YouTube description mentions another part of this clip, with Helen talking about what happened during the filming of Caligula. It's a funny story, but I did feel some surprise that she'd even want to remind people she was in a film usually considered one of the worst ever made (I think Roger Ebert said it was THE worst). I'm sure she was paid well for it. Producer Bob Guccione had a lot of money to throw around, thanks to Penthouse magazine, and though he'd spent some of that money on worthwhile ventures like Omni magazine, whose mix of science fiction and science fact I liked, he'd completely wasted what he spent on Caligula. Still, Helen's story about that is hilarious. She's always a great guest on talk shows.
