I eat them, but they have to be just out of green. I won't eat any banana that's even slightly browning, because then there's ROT underneath.

Also, I refuse to drink any smoothie that has banana in it. That's all you'll be tasting no matter what other fruit is with it.

9. Mainstream "real" Indian food.
Mon Dec 26, 2011, 03:01 PM
Dec 2011

There is a place in Silicon Valley called "Tandoori Oven" that makes Indian food geared more toward the average Caucasian's tastebuds than someone born and raised in Bangalore. They have a killer tandoori chicken wrap, in naan bread, with a side of cucumber salad...that's as far into Indian cuisine as I can get. I've spoken with the owner. He was the subject of a few articles in which he said that "the lunch crowd" goes out for Italian and Chinese and if he could "tone down" Indian food to appeal to a broader audience, he'd have a hit on his hands. He was right.

There used to be another place called "Grand Indian Buffet"...it turned into a non-buffet type of restaurant, and may not be there at all anymore...it's been a while since I checked. But they also seemed to be "Indian Food Lite." I used to eat there around once a month.

But as far as the curries and some of the other more traditional, hardcore dishes go...don't like the taste, don't like the smell, don;t like the appearance.

I USED to hate guacamole and that suited my wife just fine because we LOVE going to to Tex-Mex restaurants and invariably there will be dishes that come with guac and she always helped herself to mine. But one day she just couldn't stand me hating on guacamole and practically shoved some in my mouth just to see if I could figure out why I hated it.

She's been mad at me ever since because now I keep my guac and I've been mad at her ever since for not making me try it sooner.

To the sushi haters, I would say there are many different kinds of sushi - some may taste vile to you but others you might like.

Unfortunately, I love all the stuff that is sweet and high in calories. Can't keep them, or any type of chips or nuts in the house, as it's impossible to stop with just a few. I wish I hated stuff that is "too rich", or "too sweet", or "junk."

There is no middle ground. You're either on board with the diarrhea-like substance or you're not. It just tastes gross.

Runners up:

Straight mayo or Miracle Whip. A bad experience with a McDLT made me an enemy to this condiment for life.

Casseroles. Tossing runny, sloppy, canned crap in a dish and baking it doesn't = food. It equals lazy shit. I absolutely hate it when her family comes over and they make green bean casserole. REALLY? Think I'm eating that?

Mayonnaise-ish dips that look and smell like vomit. These seem to end up at nearly every party we're at and the whole house ends up smelling sour afterwards.

Pineapple on pizza. NO.

Banana Peppers. They smell like harsh foot sweat, so no way is that going near my mouth.

Ricotta, bleu or feta cheese. If this ingredient is in or on any dish, I won't eat it. Bad consistency, worse taste (especially bleu).

Cilantro - for reasons already listed.

Tapioca/vanilla/rice pudding. Gross, gross and more gross.

ETA: Any "Salad" that has "Potato", "Egg", "Chicken", "Tuna" or "Bean" in front of it. The first four all have mayo plague and the last is just utterly nasty.

Every time I make fruit salad, melon's not invited. And you know what? Mine gets cashed at every party, so I'm not the only sick-of-melon person out there.

Pumpkin anything. Can't eat it.

Cooked beans or peas of any kind. Mom used to make me gag down lima, green and wax beans from a can . . . GOD those things smelled awful and tasted worse.
