My elderly aunt discovered her beloved cat in the dryer one time (same Aunt from whom I inherited my current kitty Jean Luc).

That story did not have a happy ending. Whole family was devastated, esp. her.

That particular memory is why this story really hit home for me and why I was so happy about the ending.

large hole and run around all-night and play with the springs. During the day, he would sleep up there. Fast forward, Mattress guys arrive and take out the old mattress to the truck and bring in the new. Meanwhile, I'm looking for buffy. Figured he found a place to hide from the strangers. He did, in the mattress, in the back of the truck. I opened a can of tuna to get him out of the truck and into the house. I told a story about a kitten being found in behind our car radio and the Dealership taking the entire dashboard out. That also was buffy.

This was in the CNN article about it:

The passenger, who was traveling on Delta Air Lines, was paged to come and explain his luggage, and told TSA that "it was not his cat -- it belonged to someone else in the household," said Farbstein. They suggested the cat -- which was on top of the luggage, and even had its fur sticking out of the case between the zippers -- had got into the case unseen.

TSA did not involve animal welfare, said Farbstein.

Ummm... How would it be possible to unknowingly zip up a cat who's lying on top of all the items in the suitcase? Did the cat close the top of the suitcase himself? And even if so, who doesn't take one last peek inside before zipping up a suitcase that had been unattended for a while?

And what about the fur sticking out between the zippers? Wouldn't the cat be screaming in pain at that point? The traveler must have been in a huge rush. I just don't see how any of this is possible, but apparently it is since TSA bought the story. Lol

Cat found in checked luggage enjoys Thanksgiving at home

(Very very brief)

NEW YORK (Gray News) – A TSA officer was shocked to find a family’s pet stowed inside a checked bag last week at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

According to a spokesperson for TSA, the orange cat, named Smells, was spotted after the luggage went through the X-ray unit.

The traveler said the cat belonged to someone else in his household, TSA explained in a tweet.

TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said Smells was returned safely and enjoyed Thanksgiving at its home in Brooklyn.

“Apparently Smells was planning to chase after a big mouse he heard was running around Disney World,” Farbstein wrote in a tweet.

If you have questions about what you can bring, TSA has a list of items you can pack in carry-on and checked baggage posted on its website.
